Health and Safety in the work place

Everyone who goes to work is entitled to carry out their duties and return home without suffering an injury. Between 2006 and 2007 almost 250 people suffered fatal injuries at work. This is quite shocking in a society such as ours. What is more concerning is that this represented an 11% increase on the previous year.

The Companies Act 2006 and the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 were missed opportunities to impose health and safety duties upon directors.

As Hammersmith Solicitors, we believe that serious proactive health and safety duties imposed upon directors will lead to more accountability and will ensure that employees are given safety in the workplace. This is something that must be placed high on the agenda of any organisation. Although many companies these days take health and safety seriously, we are concerned that, time and time again, we are approached by employees that have, not only been injured at work, they are often too scared to complain or, indeed, litigate against their employer, for fear of loosing their job. This is unacceptable and we would be happy to meet with you, if you find yourself in such a situation, to consider how best to proceed.
