The Health & Safety at Work Act was given royal assent on 31 st July 1974. It is today the 40 th Anniversary of the Act.

The number of fatalities in the work place has fallen by 85% as reported by the TUC and the number of injuries at work has fallen by 77% as reported by the TUC. It is difficult to imagine now what the position was prior to this important piece of health and safety legislation came into force.

What is worrying now is the government’s wish to try and remove a key part of the Act by removing most self-employed workers from its protection.

Hubbard Pegman & Whitney LLP has years of experience representing individuals who have successfully recovered compensation for injuries caused by virtue of an employer’s breach of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
