Lady Hale recently became the most senior female judge in English history, in June of this year.

Lady Hale was appointed the first female Deputy President of the UK’s Supreme Court, following the retirement of Lord Hope. Prior to this appointment, Lady Hale was the only woman among 12 Supreme Court judges.

Lady Hale comes from a family law background and has been pioneering throughout her career. This is not the first time that she has become the initial female to undertake a role, as in 1984 she was the first woman to be appointed to the Law Commission.
